Fully automatic electronic levelling and jacking system “ELJ” for aircrafts and helicopter

DESCRIPTION:

The “ELJ” is not a conventional synchronizing device for aircraft / helicopter jacks, controlled by a travel transducer, but an “intelligent system”, which automatically controls the lifting procedure using two inclinometers (one for the longitudinal axis and a second one for the transversal axis of the aircraft/helicopter).

The aircraft/helicopter may

•be lifted or lowered “absolutely level” i.e. horizontally in both axes or

•in any predetermined leveling angle e.g. in the “true position” determined by the hall floor.

In all cases, the aircraft/helicopter remains in the exact preselected position during the entire jacking procedure.

The two inclinometers, which are placed in the same box, transmit control impulses via a P:C to the lifting jacks, according to any drift of the helicopter position from the target values with respect to the longitudinal and transversal inclination.

For the lifting procedure, the inclinometer box is placed at the pre-defined location on the aircraft /helicopter.

The inclinometer setting range is programmable and may be kept extremely small. Of course, the aircraft /helicopter may also be lifted manually, using a central control panel. In this case, every lifting jack is controlled individually by pressing a push-button. It is also possible to control all lifting jacks at the same time for raising and lowering operations. This, however, is done without the support of the “ELJ” automatic control.

In this case, the electronic system is laid out in such a way, that a warning lamp blinks when there is a deviation from the preset target position. When the target position is exceeded by more than ± 0,5° an “EMERGENCY STOP” is triggered i.e. an automatic total stop.
A total stop is also triggered in case of any fault of an electrical nature.

OPERATING SEQUENCES

UP
SEQ 1: Raising the aircraft of a few inches, just by pressing the START button.

SEQ 2: Leveling from the on-board level bubble by adjusting the height of the two SLAVE jacks.

SEQ 3: Recording of the requested aircraft reference level in the Programmable Controller simply by pressing a push-button located on the P.C. box.

SEQ 4: Jacking to the preset height stored in the P.C. by pressing the START button again.

DOWN
One sequence only: Just place the selector knob in DOWN position and press the START button. The aircraft is automatically raised by about 1 in to disengage the safety nuts, then descends to ground, holding the prerecorded aircraft reference level.

THE SPECIFIC ADVANTAGES OF “ELJ”:

•Excellent safety: the pre-defined leveled position of the aircraft /helicopter is automatically controlled and maintained during the lifting process. No side load is applied to the lifting jacks. Human error is excluded.
•Labor saving: the visual inspection during the jacking procedure becomes obsolete and no operators are required for the lifting jacks.
•Time saving: the jacking procedure with “ELJ” is faster than with conventional, manually operated jacks.
•The “ELJ” system is also suitable for the weighing of aircraft/ helicopters thanks to load cells placed on the jacks, as the system ensures an automatically leveled weighing position and prevents side loads on the load cells.
